CHARTERS COURT
AN ELEGANT KITCHEN FOR AN ICONIC ART DECO BUILDING
THE PROJECT
Charters Court in Sunningdale is an iconic local landmark. The Grade II listed building was built in 1938 for industrialist Frank Parkinson and was home to Edward 7th and Mrs Simpson for a brief period prior to his abdication. The Art Deco building later became the headquarters for De Beers Diamonds before its redevelopment into luxury apartments.
After being recommended, one of the residents approached Extreme to redesign their kitchen. Working in collaboration with the interior designer Melanie Tomlinson Design, the Extreme design team in Sunningdale sensitively redesigned the kitchen to create an elegant, contemporary space that honours the building’s history and art deco architecture.

THE DESIGN
The kitchen features light, handleless cabinetry in a gloss finish, which reflects natural light from the patio doors to enhance the feeling of space. The neutral palette provides the backdrop to the striking natural quartzite used for the splashback and breakfast bar. The quartzite’s warm tone brings warmth to the space while complementing the walnut art deco features throughout the property’s interior.
The raised bar’s subtle curve creates an inviting bar area for socialising, while a bevelled mirror feature panel echoes our clients’ mirrored art deco furnishings. The outcome is a sophisticated, understated kitchen bathed in natural light.
