CONTEMPORARY BOUTIQUE REDESIGN
A PERSONALLY CURATED KITCHEN & LIVING SPACE FOR A FAMILY OF FIVE
THE PROJECT
This North London family home underwent a complete re-design of its existing kitchen, living and entertaining spaces inherited with the property. The space was reimagined with a deeply personal, richly layered contemporary kitchen and interior that balances classical elegance with modern performance.
Our clients, Bour Consulting and Design, are boutique interior design and property developers themselves, with a passion for natural materials and timeless style. After eight years in their home, they were ready to leave behind their poorly lit, glossy, impersonal kitchen. In its place, they envisioned something warmer, richer and entirely unique. A space that reflected their lifestyle, taste and the architecture of their home: timeless over trendy, textural over shiny, and natural over synthetic.
The Extreme design scheme encompasses a seamless broken plan space defined by symmetry, craftsmanship and flow. From the contemporary kitchen and home bar to the media wall and fitted furniture in the adjoining rooms, the space is calibrated for a busy household, with strategic lighting and thoughtful solutions built into every corner.

THE KITCHEN
At the heart of the contemporary kitchen design is a reverence for authentic, expressive materials. Individually sourced natural veneers are used throughout the cabinetry, chosen for their rich grain and understated warmth. The kitchen cornice is reimagined with a contemporary, linear slatted timber grill that runs along the entire length of the room. While the grill brings an architectural detail to the kitchen, it also serves a functional purpose to hide an AC unit.
SCULPTURED KITCHEN ISLAND
On the island, the vertical linear veneer used elsewhere in the kitchen is replaced by a complimentary timber with a horizontal flowing grain that brings a new dimension to the palette. While in the seating area, handcrafted liquid bronze panels bring a darker, refined contrast and sculptural depth.
A NATURAL IMPRESSION
Beyond these layered details, it is the natural stone that creates the first impression. Book-matched Patagonia quartzite envelops the sink run and kitchen island in a sweeping, symmetrical layout – delivering the visual impact the clients longed for. The patterning of the stone is a living artwork, grounding the space with both drama and organic authenticity.
The kitchen is enhanced by strategic integrated lighting throughout. The layered lighting approach allows dappled light to highlight the textures of metals and stone, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
RE-HOMED APPLIANCES
Rather than discarding the client’s existing Sub-Zero fridge, we honoured its enduring quality by integrating it seamlessly into the new design. Reframed within bespoke cabinetry, it now sits flush within a tailored wall elevation, surrounded by detailing that echoes the wider kitchen palette.
Framing elements draw from the surrounding finishes, allowing the appliance to feel fully embedded, both functionally and aesthetically. This approach preserves a perfectly serviceable piece and exemplifies our commitment to sustainable, thoughtful design.
THE DRINKS BAR
ZONED BAR FOR ENTERTAINING
A statement in contrast and character, the bar introduces a darker, moodier palette to the space—designed as both a functional zone and a visual anchor. Clad in rich, textural finishes and nestled seamlessly within the kitchen architecture, it offers a bold counterpoint to the lighter natural stone and timber tones elsewhere. Whether hosting guests or enjoying a quiet evening drink, the bar adds a layer of sophistication and intimacy, elevating the room from every day to exceptional.
MEDIA & FITTED FURNITURE
In the adjoining rooms, fitted furniture thoughtfully maximises available space to create functional storage for this busy household. Instead of directly matching the kitchen, the media wall and living area joinery take on a new aesthetic by reinterpreting key design elements of the kitchen in a fresh, expressive way.
This contrast of materials and tones adds richness while maintaining a clear design dialogue with the adjoining kitchen. The result is living spaces that feel distinct yet harmonious, thoughtfully zoned, yet beautifully unified through craftsmanship and considered detail.
BESPOKE FURNITURE MEDIA WALL
The living space features a media wall with fitted cabinetry and open shelving. Both architectural and functional, the furniture conceals technology within beautifully crafted cabinetry, allowing the space to feel curated rather than dominated by screens. Integrated lighting and precisely detailed shelving offer the opportunity for personal display.
The linear grill detailing from the kitchen reappears as fluted black cabinetry, offering bold texture and depth. The timber shifts to a warm, medium-toned brown, creating a softer, inviting feel that anchors the living space with warmth. The back panel of the open shelving is finished in a liquid metal, echoing the kitchen’s material palette but in a new texture brought to life through integrated lighting.
FURNITURE FOR ENTERTAINING
Adjacent to the media wall, more bespoke shelving sits discreetly within the architectural recesses. The furniture houses a full height wine fridge for easy access to bottles when entertaining.
A holistic approach to layout, lighting and materiality has resulted in a unified space that flows effortlessly, and beautifully reflects how this family of five choose to live, gather and grow.
