Your Story by Design
At Extreme, we believe that homes should reflect the people who inhabit them. Beyond style, trends and aesthetics, a home should be individual, authentic and full of personality.
This is why we work differently. Our design approach is centred around you and your story, unravelling what is truly important to you to create a design that transcends trends and is simply you.
Our previous Journals have covered many topics surrounding individual and personal design, such as The Craft of Sketching, Eccentricity in Interiors, Inspiration in Design and the Arts and Crafts movement. In this Journal, we offer a brief glimpse into our creative process to share how we transform a client’s unique design story into a kitchen or furniture design that exudes their individuality.
Read on to discover the unique design stories behind some of our most recent projects.
PROJECT: TRANQUILLITY IN NATURE
The design story for this project centres around active family life, a shared love of spending time in nature and the desire to create a space that is a calming refuge. This personal story is infused with the style brief to create a luxurious and contemporary environment that complements the home’s interior scheme and architecture.
MATERIALS
The palette incorporates luxurious finishes, linear textures and sustainable recycled materials reminiscent of the natural scenes found in the design story.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The design translates the organic shapes from nature in a conceptual and abstract interpretation, achieving a contemporary, intriguing and unique form.
PROJECT: THE LAKE HOUSE
The design story for The Lake House is rooted in capturing the elegance, sophistication and character of Art Deco style. The kitchen combines influences from the Art Deco movement with contemporary design features, creating a unique marriage of classic and contemporary style to reflect the character of the owners.
MATERIALS
The palette features a dramatic contrast of dark, rich cabinetry with light stone worktops, accentuated by warming metallics and bespoke bronze etched mirror.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The design draws on layering, geometric forms and Art Deco motifs to reimagine the classic elegance of Art Deco in a contemporary family setting.
PROJECT: RUSTIC BARN CHARM
The design story for this kitchen stems from the architecture of the barn, merged with the client’s eclectic style. The kitchen draws inspiration from the materials of the barn and the rural setting in which it sits, to create an environment that feels inherently a part of the fabric of the building.
The kitchen materials draw inspiration from the rural environment and meadows found near the barn, along with our client’s unique style and preference for the eclectic. The outcome is an intriguing bricolage of curated design details, resulting in a truly personal kitchen design with as much character as the barn itself.
MATERIALS
The palette is highly tactile, featuring a variety of organic textures, patterns and tones. Each material draws on a feature of the barn’s architecture or the surrounding landscape.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The design interacts with the character features of the barn, creating a harmonious fusion of old and new.
